South East Asia is expected to becomes the fastest growing market for Paper in the next 10 years. Paper demand and consumption are rising in Vietnam to supply domestic needs of 84 million peoples. In 2009 total capacity of paper production was 1.8 million tones, increased by 30% from year 2008. It could be seen average annual growth rate of 13-15% in the paper demand and capacity.

VIETNAM PULP AND PAPER MARKET

PAPER CONSUMPTION, PRODUCTION, IMPORT AND EXPORT

Paper consumption in 2013 3,096,585 Tons, rose 8.90% year -on-year
Production 1,680,000 Tons, rose 2.57% year -on-year
Import 1,542,585 Tons, rose 16.82% year -on-year
Export 126,000 Tons, rose 9.81% year -on-year

2014 FORECAST

Paper Consumption increases 6.55% year -on - year
Paper Production increases 6.01% year -on - year
Import  increases 7.29% year -on - year
Export increases 8.24% year -on - year

NEWSPRINT PAPER

Newsprint paper import in 2013 was up to 57,000 Tons, as twice as domestic production to meet consumption of more than 80,000 Tons

PRINTING AND WRITING PAPER

Printing and writing paper import rose 30.27% year on year and reached 155,878 tons. Printing and writing paper export via notebook rose 5.26% year on year.

PACKAGING PAPER

Packaging paper production is the most stable sector in the paper industry. Production in 2013 rose 10.25% year-on-year.

TISSUE PAPER

Tissue paper production in 2013 increased nearly 40% year-on-year as new PMs were erected and came online. Therefore, tissue paper export in 2013 also increased 72% year-on-year. Tissue paper consumption also increased nearly 30% though people saved on consumption. This might be the result of high urbanization growth rate and the convenience of tissue paper in daily life.

JOSS PAPER PRODUCTION

Mainly for export only rose 4.92% year-on-year. Consumption per capita increased slightly from 32.03 kg/year to 34.48 kg/year.
