Q.1108: Can you recycle Milk or Juice Carton boxes? Can you recycle Tetrapak boxes?

Ans. YES

Milk, juice and/or other liquid carton boxes are lined with polythene, aluminum and/or other liquid barriers. A thin aluminum layer is created by metalizing paperboard or a polythene layer is attached by heat treatment. The paperboard used in carton is made of very high quality fibers and typically has wet strength additives.

Liquid carton boxes can be and are being recycled using special hydra-pulpers. A slow and gentle wetting and agitation separate fibers from barrier layers. Fibers in pulp form is then separated from barrier layers which are recycled separately.
