Q.1020: How is paper made translucent (grease proof, tracing paper)?

Ans. Cellulose fiber in pure form is translucent. The air entrapped between fibers make paper opaque. If the fibers are enough refined/beaten that all air is taken out, the resulting sheet will be translucent. Translucent papers are dense and contain up to 10% moisture at 50% humidity.
