PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
June 1997 to Present - Project & Development Manager,
Horizon Pulp & Paper Estonia
Completely responsible for the upgradtion of fiber line
for increasing production from 45,000 TPA to 65 000 TPA
of unbleached sack kraft paper production. The total
investment of these projects is around 20 Mil USD. The
activities include, freezing technical specifications,
drawing up the implementation schedule with cash flow
requirements.
Studied existing wood handling equipments, digester house,
wash plant, screening plant and drawing up the action
plant for consistent production level of 220 TPD of pulp.
The screening plant of 240 TPD is successfully
commissioned.
Drawn up the scheme for centralized high consistency
refining system, upgradtion of one of the paper machine
for manufacture extensible clupak paper followed by
suitable upgradation of rewinder and packing machine.
Upgradtion of existing causticisng section etc. in order
to produce white liquor of 800 cum/day from 600 cum/day.
Co-ordinated the techno-commercial activities of the
Modernization of the existing Mitsubishi recovery boiler
of 315TPD & Addition of black liquor concentrator
from Ahlstrom Corporation. New one chamber two fields ESP
from FLS Miljo.
Co-ordinated the basic engineering for fiber line through
DCL India in cooperation with Jaako Porry Finland.
In charge of rehabilitation program funded by IFC. (June
1997-Dec 98) Carried out brief study of the plant to
improve the efficiency, quality and production to a
consistent level of 140 TPD from 100 TPD. The investment
for this program is around 9 Mil USD. The activities
include, Identifying the critical areas of concern,
Obtaining technical/ commercial offers, Making Cost
Benefit Analysis, Preparation of the cash flow
requirements, Technical cum Commercial Finalization of
the offers, Execution and Commissioning of the same.
PLC operated system for cooking in digester, Development
of new tackle design for the refiners. Enlisting the
critical press rolls in paper machines & conditioning.
Rebuild of Paper Machine No1 by installation of
hydrafoils & new QCS system to increase the speed
& improve formation. Major Rebuild of Paper Machine
No2 to manufacture semi-extensible kraft paper which
involved Modification of head box, electrical drive,
Installation Clupak unit, steam and condensate system,
& QCS system. Installation of Salvage rewinder.
Setting up of new Paper Testing Labaratory
Responsible for Checkout of the Tissue Conversion Plant
of capacity 5000 TPA in to toilet rolls followed by
Erection, Commissioning, and Training of technicians and
Stabilization of the plant. Development of systems and
handing over to the local team to manage the plant.
Coordinator on Environmental Management, Member of Safety
Committee of the Recovery Boiler & coordinated the
activities for annual maintenance which are statutory
requirement.
Co-ordination with Finance Department in submitting of
the progress report on the status of project periodically
for disbursement of funds from the IFC. & also
incharge of insurance activities for the IFC projects.

As a member of Process expert team to collaborate with
STORA Sweden. in selection of appropriate technologies.
Deputed to STORA Sweden to make detail study of coated
products and draw action plan for similar program in BILT
modernization.
Project Co-ordinator for unit Ballarpur for enhancing the
production by 100 TPD by balancing the pulpmill equipment,
rebuilding one of the paper machines to manufacture
coated products.
Deputed to Ballarpur as technical expert to participate
with Mckinsey Inc a Multinational-consulting firm to
improve productivity & quality. (Nov 1994-May 95)
Conducted brainstorming sessions with the process team at
all levels, generated ideas, evaluated the same for its
economic viability and drawn the implementation program.
Member of the high level delegation which visited USA for
benchmarking and ascertaining the above concepts to make
them realistic for BILT-wide implementation.

Streamlined the section and introduced Quality Assurance
System. Towards product Development worked with
papermachine crew to develop Unbleached Absorbent Kraft
paper for laminates and Deep Colored Pulp board for
export market and achieved stabilization of these
products.
Coordinating with recovery process team improved the
Recovery efficiency from 65% to 75%.. Member of technical
team in stabilizing the new effluent treatment plant of
Activated Sludge Process.
