Qualifications
Summary
Nearly two
decades of experience in the corrugated packaging industry, with
the level of expertise to be successful as a packaging director,
technical director of packaging, or VP of Manufacturing. A
career highlighted by forward thinking and introduction of
several innovative ideas and participation on several patented
design projects.
Accomplishments
include creating an in-house die-making department for all
repairs, revisions, and prepress activities. Through the
creation of the in-house die department, I was able to integrate
our design and manufacturing departments for total quality
control.
An ability to
produce at a high level of efficiency, which comes from a total
understanding of design and manufacturing processes. A
strong background as a tool & die maker, which provides the
knowledge necessary to produce at a very competitive cost.
Professional
Experience
Technical
Director
July 1980 to Present
Triangle
Container Corporation
Philadelphia, PA
Oversee
approximately 30 employees in the departments of Design, Computer-Aided
Manufacturing, Die-Cutting, Die-Making & Repair, Printing,
Make-Ready, Prepress, Production & Scheduling, and Sales
& Service for this point-of-purchase, national packaging
manufacturer, with $30 million annual sales. Promoted from
Supervisor in Die Cutting to current position.
n
Created in-house die-making department that saved approximately
30% on tooling annually. Managed in-house die makers for
repairs and revisions of both flat and rotary dies on-site, thus
saving production time and additional tooling costs. Responsible
for quoting of all tooling for the company.
n
Reduced manufacturing errors as a result of employing computer
aided manufacturing 100% to modem designs to venders and the
manufacturing department. Reduced set-up times of first
time run items to 20 - 45 minutes.
n
Specified layouts for all multi-piece jobs for both planning and
manufacturing optimization. Efficient layouts provided
economical and accurate customer quotes, and helped break-apart
of multiple pieces, all of which provided the best value to the
customer.
n
Worked with Bobst to become the first company in the industry to
employ an innovative, advanced printing process, using 5-color
offset printing with a varnish on E-flute corrugated packaging.
Triangle used this process in printing the Mona Lisa on
corrugated packaging.
n
Specialized in redesigning new concept packages for increased
manufacturability and running efficiency through a gluer. Also
assisted in the design and development of the patented stacking
tray and stacking tray shipper.
n
Increased precision in the printing department by using proofed
vinyl as machinery overlay. Developed the linkage for
lithoprinting and funneled all such work, including four-color
separations, to lithographic artists. Linked graphics
department computer software with the design department CAD
programs to provide Illustrator program to CAD design program.
Updated and computerized the design department, installing Barco
Artios CAD.
.
n
Modified Folding Carton machinery, after observing the process in
Europe, to provide Triangle with the ability to create a press
ready strike in order to produce corrugated, point-of-purchase
packaging. Worked with CITO to develop more than 20-different
counters by using folding-carton countering principles for
corrugated packaging which has saved production time and labor.
Currently developing pre-press make ready sheets to decrease
production time.
n
Traveled to manufacturers' sites to investigate reported
packaging issues to evaluate their machine problems and create a
method of either modifying packaging or improving the machinery
in order to continue production.
n
Over 25 years of experience in rotary die cutting, including both
steel to steel, and soft die cutting on United, Ward and Bobst
machinery.
Supervisor,
Die Cutting Specialty, Philadelphia, PA 1976-80
n
Developed rotary and flat die and employed the various principals
of folding-box packaging.
Apprentice,
Philadelphia Consolidated Die Company, Philadelphia, PA 1968-76
n
Tool & Die Maker. Also cut all types of materials,
including wood, plastic, and metal, as a machine operator.
